Rudolph

We read Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and created a story map. The kids each illustrated one part of the story map. To review last weeks lesson on entertainment books and inform books, we read a non-fiction book about Caribou and created a Venn Diagram to compare Rudolph to real Caribou.

Santa Letters!

We read Wake Up Santa and talked about the characters, setting problem and solution. I wrote a story map as the children told me and then we made a Santa and wrote a list for him.

 

Millie Waits for the Mail

We read Mille Waits for the Mail with our 2nd grad reading buddies. Then, discussed the characters, setting, problem and solution with our reading buddies. Finally, the students created a their own story map with their reading buddy. They illustrated and wrote to show the characters, setting , problem and solution.

The Ugly Duckling

I honor of letter U, we read The Ugly Ducking and created a story map of the beginning middle and end. I had the students orally identify the beginning middle and end of the story. Then, sent them to illustrate one part. We used our illustrations to create the story map to help us re-tell the story.

Ugly Duckling!

We read The Ugly Duckling and discussed what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. The students then drew pictures to illustrate the parts of a story. They used a printed graphic organizer and even though the they had a small space to draw they did an awesome job.

The Three Little Pigs

We read the book, acted out the story with puppets, made a story map of the problems and solutions, and created a fairy tale element chart. We will create this chart for each fairy tale we read and compare them. We also read The Three Wolves and the Big Bad Pig and wrote about what the three pigs could have made their houses out of.
