Substitute Groundhog

We read Substitute Groundhog by Pat Miller. Then we created wanted posters including qualities that a substitute groundhog needs and does not need to have. We learned from the book that a groundhog needs good eyesight can not be too big, can not go to sleep, can not play, and can not be afraid of the dark.

Groundhog Day Fun!

Since we missed groundhog day last week due to the weather, we celebrated it today. We made a groundhog and watched the recording of Puxutany Phil on ABC news website. Most of the children had not watched it and did not now if he saw his shadow or not, so they really enjoyed seeing a real groundhog and how this tradition is carried out in Pennsylvania each year.
Later on in the day we read an information book about groundhogs and constructed a circle map of facts we learned.
