Penguin Fun

We read a Three Cheers for Tacky. If you are not familiar with the Tacky books, he is an odd penguin that gets into a lot of funny situations and the kids love him. We were learning about writing using our senses, so after reading the book we created our own poems about Tacky using a template I created.

Sensory Details Snow Globe

We are learning about sensory details in writing, so I incorporated this into our Snow Globe writing.

                                                         I would make snow angels
                                                           I would drink hot chocolate.
I would play with my snowman.
I would put Christmas lights ( on my house)
                                                             I would eat cookies.
I would play with my snowman.

We read The Snow Globe Family and discussed what the family would see, hear, feel, taste, and smell inside the snow globe. Then we created our own snow globe and illustrated and wrote about what we would do inside a snow globe.

The Snowy Day Sensory Details and Writing

We read The Snowy Day and discussed what Peter saw, felt, heard, and smelled on his outing in the snow. Then we created a Snowy Day scene and wrote what we would do with our friend in the deep deep snow.
The students also filled out a sensory detail chart using our discussion as a guide. I forgot to take a picture of this though.

Letter S Fun!

We wore Silly Socks and read Silly Sally. We sequenced the story and drew ourselves upside down!

We also wore Shades to school!
Here are our Letter S Circle Maps! They are looking good!

We wore Slippers on Friday but Most of us Forgot.

We also learned about sound this week!
We did an experiment to see how the amount of water in in a glass effected the sound that was produced. We learned that the more water in the glass the lower the sound.

Energy - Heat/Cool

We have been learning about heat and cool energy this week. We played a melt an ice cube game, conducted an experiment to show how heat moves (convection) and observed what happed to ice, popcorn, and a liquid cream mixture when we heated them up or made them cold. I forgot to take pictures of the popcorn, but here are the rest.

Touch/Texture

We have been learning about the 5 senses and last week we learned about touch and texture. We made a circle map of thing we can touch, created a texture hand, and felt different objects and used illustrations and words to describe the texture of the objects.
