Little Ren Hen Makes A Pizza

We read the Little Red Hen and The Little Red Hen Makes A Pizza. We made a Venn diagram to show how the stories were alike and how they were different.
Then we had a great time making our own pizza's for snack. We are learning about area this week so I took this cooking opportunity to talk about filling in the area of thier english muffin with pizza sauce, cheese and turkey pepperoni.

Area

To introduce area we drew shapes and colored in the area of our shapes. Then to measure the area of our shapes we filled in the colored area with color tiles and counted them. The students wrote what shape they drew and the area of thier shape.
