Valentine Fun!

We had a great time this week learning and celebrating Valentine's Day with our friends!

We made Valentines with our friends and wrote about why they were are friends.

We also created Valentine Chocolate subtraction problems!

We read a non-fiction book about Valentine's Day and illustrated and wrote about what we do at Valentine's Day .

Finally, we had a great Valentine's Day Party! We enjoyed brownie cookies and ice cream sundae's!

 

The Day It Rained Hearts!

We read The Day It Rained Hearts by Felicia Bond. Then we discussed the important events in the story and used the transitional words first, next, then and last to re-tell the story. The students illustrated one event in the story and wrote a sentence to tell what was happening in the story.

Valentines for Our Reading Buddies!

We made Valentine cards and read with our 2nd Grade Reading Buddies on Valentine's Day!

Valentine Fun!

We made friend Valentines by decorating big hearts and writing about why we like our friends. We decorated cans to hold all of our Valentine Cards and we had a Great Ice Cream Sundae Party!

Valentine Writing

We read a book about Valentines Day and discussed what things that we do on this special day of love. Then the students drew a picture and constructed a sentence by gluing pre-cut words to make the sentence frame At Valentine's Day I ________________. They wrote their response in the blank.

Valentine Math

Last week we used conversation hearts to practice sorting, graphing, and adding. On Valentines day we used candy kisses to create a subtraction problem. Clifford's First Valentine

This idea came from my former teammate April Larremore. Check out her blog Chalk Talk on my blog list.

We read Clifford's First Valentine and discussed things that Clifford did in the story and things a a real dog can do. We have been learning how to tell the difference between real (non-fiction) and make believe (fictional) characters and books. The students created a Clifford out of hearts and then we created a chart of things Clifford did and things that a real dog can do.
