How Many Letters in Your Name

We made our names and counted the number of letters in our names. Then we made a graph to show how many letters are in our name. We had one student with 9 letters ( the most) and 2 students with 4 letters ( the least) in our names.

 

The Wheels on the Bus Name Substitution Songs

We will continue to practice singing our songs the rest of the week.

A My Name is Alice

We read A My Name is Alice and drew self portraits. The students wrote the first letter of their name and their name. Then we thought of something they like that starts with the same letter as their name.

 

Pete The Cat Rocking in my School Shoes

Pete the Cat was lost in our school and we had to look for him.

This slideshow design personalized with Smilebox We made our own Pete the Cat Glyph to show how many letters in our names, if we like reading or writing best and our favorite color. Then we anaylzed our glyph.

The Wheels on The Bus

I started this lesson by singing The Wheels on the Bus song. Then we read The Wheels on the School Bus. Then, the children had a great time making up our own Wheels on the bus song using the sound of the first letter of our name. Finally, we constructed our own school bus and created our rhymes to go with the first letter of our names. This idea came from Deanna Jump's Name unit, which can be purchased at  teacherspayteachers.com.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and created coconut trees, Then we used ABC stickers to put the letters in our name in the trees. The kids then wrote their name and counted how many letters were in their name.

A My Name Is Alice

We read A My Name Is Alice and created a picture of ourselves. Then we identified the first letter of our names and something that we like that started with that letter.

Gingerbread Man Hunt

My bilingual co-teacher, Ms. Palomo teaches Social Studies in Spanish to both my English speaking students as well as her Spanish speaking students. She read the Gingerbread Man in Spanish and they made a gingerbread man and cooked it. Well, just like in the story he got out of the oven and ran away. He left the students notes all over the school and they went to the cafeteria, music, P.E., art, the office and to the nurse looking for him. While they were looking for the gingerbread man they got the opportunity to meet some important people who work at our school. When they returned to their classroom they found the gingerbread man and got to eat him. The students really love this activity and get so excited especially when the staff join in on the fun and say they saw the gingerbread man run that way. I will now put pictures of the staff members and thier names on cards for the students to match and identify at my Social Studies Bilingual Pair Center.

Names

During the first 2 weeks of school we focus on our names. We read Chrysanthemum and created brace maps to compare the number of letters in our names to her name. Then, we created a graph to compare the number of letters in our name to our friends' names.

How Do You Get To School?

We read Froggy Goes to School and illustrated how we get to school. Then we made a graph of how we get to school. We found out that more students get to school by car than any other way.

Names Names Names!

We learned about our names and our friends' names this week. We counted the letters in our names and made a graph to show how many letters are in our names. We learned that more students had 6 letters in their name.
