We had a great time reading the book Underwear and wearing our big underwear to school on Friday!
We colored and wrote about our underwear too!

Upside Down Day!

To celebrate the letter U, we had an upside down day. We read George Upside Down and made pineapple upside down cupcakes. We also wore our jackets and visors upside down! I wore a tie, button and visor upside down.

United States Symbols

In Social Studies this week Ms. Palomo ( teaches Social Studies in Spanish to my class and hers) taught about United States Symbols to go along with our celebration of letter U. The students read books and created art projects to represent each symbol. Here is an example of their work on my Social Studies content board.

Upside Down Day

To end our week celebration of letter U, we had an upside down day. We wore something upside down, read George Upside Down and made upside down cupcakes for snack.

Big Underwear Day!

To help celebrate letter U this week we had a Big Underwear Day. We wear boxer shorts over our clothes and read the book Underwear. The students decorate their own paper underwear to look like their underwear and fill in the sentence to describe it. We discussed and I wrote a story map about the main characters, setting, problem and solution. In this story the Zebra and the Orangutan love big underwear, but the buffalo does not. He is grumpy and even the bugs that stay on his back leave him. The zebra and the orangutan bet the buffalo that he can not say underwear 10 times without laughing. He does it and starts laughing and can not stop. Then he loves big underwear as much as his grassland friends.

Umbrella Math

On Umbrella Day, we used our umbrellas to sort, make patterns, order form largest to smallest and made a graph patterned after our poem of the week.

The Ugly Duckling

I honor of letter U, we read The Ugly Ducking and created a story map of the beginning middle and end. I had the students orally identify the beginning middle and end of the story. Then, sent them to illustrate one part. We used our illustrations to create the story map to help us re-tell the story.
