Thanksgiving Program

The Kindergarten Class performs a Thanksgiving Program each year. My class dresses like pilgrims and the other classes dress like turkeys and Native Americans.
We sing songs and tell about the First Thanksgiving. We had a great turn out and thank all of the parents for their support in the education of their children.

The First Thanksgiving

We read the Very First Thanksgiving and discussed the events that lead up to the feast. We made TLC art to represent each part of the story, then we used the art to construct a flow map to re-tell the story of the First Thanksgiving.

Food Tasting

In lieu of a Thanksgiving Feast, we tasted one food each day and then constructed a graph of our favorite food. We liked beef jerky the most and pumpkin pie came in second. None of us liked sweet potatoes the best.

Then and Now

We read an information book about pilgrims and discussed the differences in what the pilgrims did to what we do now. Then we used pictures of things we use now and things the Pilgrims used then to create a Venn diagram.

The Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie

We read The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie and drew pictures of all the things that she swalllowed. Then we used the pictures to create a flow map to help us re-tell the story.

Pattern Headbands

We learned about indians on Friday and reviewed patterns by making pattern headbands. We used them as Indian headbands and took a picture in front of my TEPEE.

Save A Turkey

We read Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving and talked about what foods we could eat instead of turkey. We constructed TLC turkeys and wrote what we would eat to save a turkey.

Caps For Sale

In honor if letter H and hats, we read Caps For Sale and then retold the story by acting it out. The children had a great time being the monkeys from the story.

I Am Thankful

We read The Bearstein Bears Pize Pumpkin and discussed what we were thankful for. Then, the students contructed a TLC Pilgrim and wrote what they were thankful for.

Nouns and Verbs

On Monday, We read When The Leaf Blew In. In this story a leaf blows into a farm and the animals react in different ways. Then we re-read the book and identified the nouns (animals) and verbs ( actions the animals did).During the second reading we made a list of nouns and verbs from the story. Then we acted out the story be the kids being the animals and doing each action. To close the lesson each student typed a sentence in the computer lab about themselves doing something and then illustrated it. They identified themselves as the noun and what they were doing as the verb.

Ms. Spider's Tea Party

We read Ms. Spider's Tea Party by David Kirk and constructed Ms. Spider's. We also had our own tea party and tasted different flavors of tea. Then we constructed a graph to tell which tea we liked the best. Finally we analyzed the graph and found out that more students liked orange tea.
